If you’re looking for ways to learn new things and meet new people, try Meetup.com. Set up a free account and add your interests and Meetup will let you know when new groups are started or existing groups meet. Group organizers join and pay a small fee to have a virtual meeting place for group events.

You can search upcoming meetups for any city and sign up to be notified via email of events and updates in the groups you belong to.

From their website:

Meetup is the world’s largest network of local groups. We make it easy for anyone to organize a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.

Meetup home page — shows your next meetup and suggests others you may be interested in. You can also search by city for local meetups.

Each Meetup group has its own page, where basic information is shared. There’s also a discussion area so that members can talk about what they’re learning and/or doing. If you RSVP to the event, you’ll get email reminders so you don’t forget about it. After the event, you’ll get an email with links to make contact with other attendees.

If you’re hosting a paid event, Meetup integrates with Eventbrite, which is the most popular event registration software I know of.
