My Interview with Tony Campolo

Internationally-known author, speaker and pastor Tony Campolo spoke last week at my church, Christ United Methodist. I was lucky enough to get a few minutes with him. He could not have been more gracious, warm and easy to talk to. I also spoke to Lauren Wilson Young, a member of the Kemmons Wilson family, who sponsored Campolo’s appearance. His message was funny, challenging and, at times, piercing. He very clearly and effectively made the point that Jesus did not claim His authority by sheer power; he earned His authority through sacrificial love, and so should we, rather than through protests and boycotts. The talk ended with a challenge to the audience to sponsor a child through Compassion International. I do wish the room had been less noisy.
