His Ways are Higher …

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9

I was reminded of these words a few days ago on Sam Shaw’s blog. Sam was our pastor for several years and never fails to move and/or challenge me.

   I’m grateful that:

  • God is too powerful and all-knowing for me to understand. What good would it do to believe in Someone/something that can be understood by human minds? What if my only guiding wisdom were my own?
  • He forgives when I can’t. When I believe I have the right to exact justice — as defined by me — He shows mercy and forgiveness. What if I were judged by my own standards instead of His grace?
  • He never fails. When I am at the end of my rope, have no strength, He is still fresh and strong and ready to do His best work.

No, I don’t understand His ways, His thoughts, and I won’t this side of heaven — and I thank Him for that.
