On Wednesday, October 15, this blog will participate in Blog Action Day. The theme of the day is poverty.
Many high-profile, high-dollar blogs will donate all or part of their proceeds for that day to poverty-related causes and charities. That does not include this one. Not because I don’t want to; I wish I could donate a large check, but I can’t even donate a small one. This blog makes no money and, after I pay for hosting, operates at a loss.
But I can do my part, and so can you. I can donate this space, for whatever it’s worth, for that day, to raise awareness. It’s not my job to feel inadequate because of what I cannot do, it’s my job to do what I can. Maybe it will make just one person think or act, or maybe it will just irritate and annoy.
I know that it has motivated me to think harder about things I can do closer to home, to make just one life breathe a little easier.
