I’m a freelance geek: digital communications and social media strategist and consultant, writer, editor, social media nut and WordPress nerd.
Many churches, nonprofits and small businesses lack the resources to staff a full-service communications department; I’m a valuable partner to these organizations as I use my passion and gift for writing, teaching, design and technology to help them accomplish their mission and establish a strong presence in the community.
I’m involved with Memphis Social Media Expedition, a group that explores social media and its applications in all areas of life, from public relations and online marketing to lifestreaming, photosharing and social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn. We also organize and sponsor local conferences that focus on technology and social media. In addition, I lead WordPress Memphis, a peer group that meets monthly to study the platform.
My Family
My husband, Jim, and I have two girls, Elizabeth, a graduate of the University of Mississippi and Sara Ann, a social work student at the University of Memphis. Jim is an even bigger geek than I am, a great photographer, amazing grill cook and very handy around the house. He can do things with a spreadsheet that will bring tears to your eyes. Ask him about he distribution of different colors in a sampling of Skittles packages; he has an Excel file for that. Now a confirmed Mac user, it took me years to cajole him away from the Dark Side. His day job is vice president, applications development at Fred’s, Inc.

These are my girls, Sara Ann, 19 and Elizabeth, 23. Despite their years of resistance, they have both become fairly geeky in their own right: Sara Ann is a brilliant writer, was editor of the newspaper at Houston High School here in Germantown, and is a blogger. Elizabeth graduated from Ole Miss with an art degree, can do better bezier curves than I can and is a whiz at video editing. She’s a graphic designer at Fred’s, which allows to her have lunch with dad on occasion. One of my crowning parental achievements is the fact that they are both on Twitter. They make me proud; they are smart, amazing young women — and how many moms can claim that 100 percent of their offspring have their own Web presence?
